OVERVIEW
Audi’s 2004 works DTM comeback delivered all three championships. Mattias Ekström won the drivers’ title, Audi Sport Team Abt secured the teams’ championship and Audi took the manufacturers’ crown. For 2005, the new B7-shaped R12 race car succeeded the B6-shaped R11. The roadgoing A4 DTM Edition connected that racing success and changing design language with the production A4.
Following the study’s appearance at Essen in November 2004 and the production version’s debut at Leipzig AMI in April 2005, Audi announced the British-market car on April 29. Orders opened at £29,980 on the road, with first deliveries scheduled for September. The UK received an allocation of 250 right-hand-drive saloons.
The British specification centered on the 2.0 TFSI quattro with a six-speed manual. This distinguished it from the broader continental offering, which included a front-wheel-drive version. The UK car therefore featured quattro as standard.

WHAT MADE THE DTM EDITION DIFFERENT
The DTM Edition combined the four-cylinder turbocharged powertrain with appointments associated with the S4 and exterior components created specifically for the edition. Its identity extended beyond the additional engine output to the seats, materials, wheels and restricted color palette.
That combination gave the car a distinct position within the A4 range. Buyers received a manual, all-wheel-drive sports saloon with a collection of details that went considerably further than the usual visual changes of an appearance package.

RECARO SEATS AND S4 CABIN DETAILS
The Recaro front seats were among its most significant features. The deeply bolstered, S4-style chairs brought a seating design associated with Audi’s V8 performance models into the four-cylinder saloon. The same general design also appeared in North American B7 RS 4s, although the DTM Edition had its own upholstery treatment.
Leather bolsters surrounded Nardia microfiber centers, accented by silver stitching. The production material identified Nardia, whereas the earlier Essen study translation described Alcantara. The microfiber treatment continued across the steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake, making the edition’s cabin changes apparent in the controls used most frequently.
Carbon-fiber dashboard and door inlays provided another S4 connection. DTM sill plates and silver-piped floor mats completed a coordinated treatment that distinguished the interior from an ordinary A4.

WHEELS WITH A DIRECT RACING REFERENCE
The 18-inch, 15-spoke wheels supplied one of the clearest visual connections with the competition car. Audi explicitly described their styling as referencing the A4 DTM’s wheels. Their closely spaced spokes echoed the OZ Racing wheels used by the racing program, without implying that the road wheels were identical competition components.
The design also exposed the cross-drilled front discs. Together with the lowered suspension, the wheels helped give the road car a recognizable stance while retaining the production A4’s body proportions.

COLORS AND THE DTM CONNECTION
Imola Yellow, Light Silver metallic, Sprint Blue pearl effect and Phantom Black pearl effect formed the edition’s four-color palette. Blue, yellow and silver were prominent in Audi’s contemporary DTM program, making the brighter road-car finishes particularly appropriate to its theme.
Sprint Blue visually recalled the Red Bull-sponsored A4 DTM cars of Ekström and Martin Tomczyk. Imola Yellow echoed the Hasseröder entries from the championship-winning 2004 season, while Light Silver recalled the silver used by other factory cars. These are visual associations rather than confirmed paint-code matches or an officially documented color-to-livery scheme.

LEGACY
The UK model gave British buyers a limited-allocation version of Audi’s DTM commemorative saloon. Its combination of quattro, manual transmission, Recaro seats and carbon-fiber details established a distinct identity alongside the S4 and the emerging B7 RS 4.
The edition also belongs to a wider story of Audi reusing selected components across later models. DTM-derived exterior treatments subsequently appeared on North American S4s, including the S4 25quattro. Those related cars share parts of the design vocabulary, while the British A4 DTM Edition remains defined by its own launch specification and 250-car allocation.
