OVERVIEW

The Audi A2 e-tron is a compact battery-electric model introduced in September 2026 as Audi’s new entry-level electric vehicle for the European market. Developed in Germany and produced at Audi’s Ingolstadt plant, the model revives the A2 name with efficiency again positioned as a central element of its engineering brief.

Audi offers the A2 e-tron with four power outputs and three gross battery capacities. All versions announced at launch use a single permanent-magnet synchronous motor driving the rear wheels. Output ranges from 125 kW and 350 Nm to 240 kW and 545 Nm.

The most efficient configuration is the 140-kW A2 e-tron equipped with the optional efficiency package, for which Audi quotes WLTP consumption from 12.8 kWh/100 km. Audi describes this as the lowest energy consumption of any series-production Audi to date.

Maximum quoted WLTP range is 646 kilometers, achieved by the 170-kW version with the 84-kWh battery.

The 52- and 61-kWh batteries use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells and cell-to-pack construction. The 84-kWh battery uses nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistry and a modular construction.

Four recuperation settings are provided. Three levels can be selected using steering-wheel paddles, while selecting B with the gear selector enables one-pedal driving to a standstill.

CHARGING & BIDIRECTIONAL CHARGING

In addition to conventional charging, Audi offers bidirectional charging capability.

Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) allows the high-voltage battery to supply external electrical equipment through a power outlet in the luggage compartment or an adapter connected to the vehicle’s charging port.

Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) allows the vehicle to supply stored electricity to a household electrical system using a compatible DC wall box. Audi announced V2H functionality for Germany, Austria and Switzerland at launch. Audi France additionally states that the functionality is available for the French market subject to use of a compatible DC wall box.

For V2H operation, Audi specifies a normal battery discharge window between 20 and 80 percent state of charge.

AERODYNAMICS

Drag coefficient: 0.24

Audi describes the A2 e-tron’s Cd of 0.24 as the best aerodynamic value within its compact model range.

Aerodynamic measures include a largely enclosed underbody, controllable front cooling-air intake, wheel-arch gap reducers and vents, aerodynamically optimized wheels and a defined rear roof spoiler.

The most efficient wheel configuration specified at launch uses aerodynamically optimized 19-inch wheels and matched tires.

CHASSIS

The A2 e-tron is rear-wheel drive across the range announced at launch.

Depending on specification, Audi offers comfort suspension, sport suspension or suspension with damper control. The 240-kW model receives damper control as standard. Sport suspension and damper control are available for the 170-kW version, while the 140-kW version can be equipped with sport suspension as part of the efficiency package.

Audi drive select provides comfort, balanced, efficiency and dynamic modes.

Linear steering is standard. Progressive steering is available with the Tech plus package and is standard on the 240-kW model.

EXTERIOR

The A2 e-tron uses short overhangs, a 2.77-meter wheelbase and a roofline that slopes toward a defined rear spoiler.

The front lighting and driver-assistance sensors are integrated within a black panel, with separate slim daytime running lights positioned above. At the rear, horizontal LED lighting spans the vehicle visually.

Fully electric exterior door handles use sensors rather than a conventional mechanical operating system. Audi states that an energy storage unit incorporated into each door maintains the ability to open the doors in the event of failure of the vehicle’s onboard electrical system.

Two exterior configurations were announced at launch: the standard exterior and S line. S line adds more pronounced bumpers, high-gloss black side skirts and window trim, a specific diffuser and aerodynamically designed front air intakes.

Launch colors identified by Audi include Horizon blue, Arrow gray, Pistachio green, Intense blue, Daytona gray pearl effect and Mythos black.

LIGHTING

Optional Matrix LED headlights provide adaptive selective illumination.

Four digital daytime-running-light signatures are available, comprising three static signatures and one active digital signature.

Optional LED rear lights pro are available, together with dynamic rear turn signals.

INTERIOR

The A2 e-tron introduces Audi’s Softwrap interior treatment, a fabric-covered surface extending from the instrument panel through the door panels and into the rear passenger compartment.

The standard MMI panoramic display consists of:

  • 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus
  • 12.8-inch curved MMI touch display

An augmented-reality head-up display is optional.

The gear selector is mounted on the steering column, freeing space within the center console. A Qi 2.2 inductive charging area accommodates two smartphones and supports wireless charging at up to 25 watts.

Standard audio uses seven speakers. Audi also offers an eight-speaker, 220-watt Audi sound system and a Sonos premium sound system with 14 speakers, 15 amplifier channels and maximum amplifier output of 660 watts.

DIGITAL FUNCTIONS

The standard infotainment system includes the Audi assistant with AI integration and the e-tron route planner.

The route planner calculates charging stops using factors including traffic, topography and charging-station availability and output. It also supports battery preconditioning ahead of planned charging stops.

Audi connected work integrates Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams and telephone functions. An AI-based assistant can access calendar information, compose emails, join Teams calls and initiate navigation to meeting locations.

DRIVER ASSISTANCE

Standard systems identified by Audi include:

Optional adaptive cruise assist plus combines adaptive cruise control with active lane guidance at speeds up to 210 km/h.

Audi states that an automatic highway lane-change function is planned shortly after market launch.

Optional parking technology includes surround-view cameras with 3D visualization, park assist plus, trained parking and remote parking through the myAudi app.

The trained parking function can store as many as five maneuvers. Reverse assist can memorize approximately 50 meters of a previously driven route and subsequently reverse along it at speeds of approximately 10 km/h.

MATERIALS

Depending on configuration, Audi states that more than 300 A2 e-tron components contain recycled materials, including steel, aluminum and plastics. More than 100 components incorporate post-consumer recycled material.

The optional Softwrap materials and fabrics used for three optional sport-seat configurations are made from 100-percent recycled polyester.

Audi also states that development of the A2 e-tron included reducing the variety of materials used within individual components to improve their potential recyclability.

PRODUCTION

The Audi A2 e-tron is produced at Audi’s Ingolstadt plant in Germany.

Body production takes place alongside the Audi A3. Audi states that more than 1,200 existing manufacturing assets are used for A2 e-tron production, including approximately 250 robots previously employed in production of other models.

The A2 e-tron also introduces the “pearl chain” production principle to Ingolstadt. Customer vehicle sequencing is fixed six days before assembly and maintained through the production process. Audi previously used the system at its Neckarsulm plant.

Audi states that development from initial concept to series production was completed 21 months faster than comparable previous vehicle programs.

MARKET INTRODUCTION

The A2 e-tron was presented in September 2026, with German ordering opening September 10.

First vehicles are scheduled to reach Audi dealers in December 2026.
