SUMMARY
The ABT AS6 was an aftermarket interpretation of the C6-generation Audi A6, combining aerodynamic additions, larger wheels, suspension options and engine tuning. ABT introduced its program during the new A6’s launch year and exhibited a developed specification at the 2004 Essen Motor Show.
The contemporary release highlighted a 3.0 V6 TDI upgrade producing 195 kW (265 PS), together with titanium-look SP1 wheels, Continental tires and a four-outlet exhaust treatment. The changes retained the standard A6 body structure and proportions while giving the sedan a distinct ABT appearance.

BACKGROUND & DEVELOPMENT
The C6 A6 brought Audi’s Singleframe grille and a new body design to the executive sedan range. ABT responded with a coordinated package intended to emphasize the production car’s sporting character.
In its Essen material, ABT stated that its initial A6 program had accompanied the model’s presentation, with further additions subsequently prepared for the show. Essen therefore documented an evolving conversion program rather than necessarily marking its first public appearance.
The AS6 formed part of a broader ABT presence that included the B7-based AS4 and A3-based AS3 Sportback. These road car programs appeared in the same year that Audi Sport Team Abt secured the DTM teams’ championship and Mattias Ekström won the drivers’ title.

DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
ABT’s exterior treatment comprised a revised grille, front spoiler lip, side skirts, rear skirt insert and a spoiler mounted on the trunk lid. The components followed the contours of the production A6, retaining its recognizable silhouette.
The rear received particular attention. ABT described the rear skirt insert as emphasizing the car’s width, with four chrome exhaust outlets providing another identifying feature. The trunk spoiler was intended to reduce rear lift, although the release supplied no aerodynamic measurements.
At the front, the grille and spoiler lip provided a comparatively restrained treatment. Side skirts connected the front and rear additions, creating a coordinated appearance rather than concentrating the conversion on either end of the car.

CHASSIS & MECHANICALS
The principal engine upgrade described in the release was for the 3.0-liter V6 TDI. Revised engine management increased output from the standard 165 kW (225 PS) to 195 kW (265 PS), equivalent to approximately 261 hp.
ABT also reported increased torque but did not provide a numerical figure in the supplied material. The release attributed the additional output to changes to the engine operating map rather than identifying replacement turbochargers or other internal engine modifications.
Quoted performance was 0–100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of approximately 247 km/h. The release did not identify the transmission or complete vehicle specification associated with those figures.
A height-adjustable sports suspension was included in the A6 program. Its adjustment range, spring rates and damper specifications were not stated.

WHEELS & TIRES
The Essen exhibit wore ABT SP1 wheels measuring 8.5 × 19 inches, finished in a titanium look and fitted with Continental tires. The five-spoke design was a prominent part of ABT’s contemporary road car range.
The broader A6 wheel program extended from 17 to 20 inches. The show car’s 19-inch specification should therefore be distinguished from the full range available to customers.
INTERIOR & EQUIPMENT
The supplied A6 release concentrated on exterior styling, engine tuning, suspension and wheels. It did not identify a dedicated AS6 seat design, upholstery package or interior trim specification.
Interior accessories described for other ABT models at Essen should consequently not be assumed to have formed part of the AS6 package without additional documentation.
PRODUCTION & VARIANTS
The AS6 was presented as an A6 tuning program rather than a numbered special edition. The supplied release gives neither a production total nor a fixed allocation.
The documented Essen configuration was based on the C6 sedan. Its powertrain discussion highlighted the 3.0 V6 TDI as an example of ABT’s engine development, rather than providing an exhaustive list of supported engines.
The specification recorded here describes the 2004 program and show configuration. Later AS6 packages, additional engine applications and Avant conversions require their own supporting material.
SIGNIFICANCE
The AS6 records ABT’s early response to the C6 A6, combining the new Audi design language with the company’s established grille, spoiler, wheel and exhaust treatments. Its emphasis on the 3.0 TDI also illustrates the importance of diesel performance tuning in the European aftermarket during this period.
Alongside the AS3 Sportback and AS4, it documents a substantial renewal of ABT’s Audi offerings in 2004. The resulting car retained the A6’s executive sedan character while adding a coordinated set of mechanical and visual changes.
