OVERVIEW
Audi A4 quattro Super Touring chassis ST09 was Joan Vinyes’s number 44 entry in the 1996 Spanish Touring Car Championship. Built by Audi Sport in 1995, it was one of two chassis acquired by Audi Spain for the campaign, alongside Jordi Gené’s ST10.
Vinyes finished fourth in the drivers’ championship, supporting Audi’s manufacturers’ title. His documented season included podium finishes at Jarama, Barcelona, Estoril and Calafat.
1996 SPANISH TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP
Audi Racing Team España paired Andorran driver Vinyes with Gené for the full eight-meeting season. Vinyes scored 146 gross points, reduced to 142 under the championship’s best-14-results rule.
At Albacete, one-minute penalties for excessive noise left him ninth in both races. He subsequently recorded a second-place finish at Barcelona, two thirds at Estoril and another third at Calafat, before returning to the podium at the Barcelona finale.
OPENING JARAMA RESULT
The references disagree on the opening race. The Super Touring Register credits Vinyes and ST09 with victory, placing Gené second. Wikipedia’s race report and championship table instead place Gené first and Vinyes second.
The table below follows the chassis register, with the disputed result marked. Until an authoritative final classification resolves the difference, ST09’s opening-race victory should be treated as provisional historical information rather than an undisputed result.
