OVERVIEW

Audi A4 quattro Super Touring chassis ST11 carried Terry Moss to the 1996 South African Super Touring Championship. Built by Audi Sport in 1995, it first competed with Frank Biela in the German Super Tourenwagen Cup before moving to South Africa.

The Super Touring Register credits ST11 with five victories in Biela’s 1995 campaign and another five during Moss’s championship-winning season. Its documented history connects the A4’s first year of European competition with Audi’s seven-country touring car title sweep in 1996.

1995 GERMAN SUPER TOURING CAMPAIGN

Biela raced ST11 as number 45 for ROC Competition. The register records double victories at Zolder and Hockenheim, plus a win in the second race at Zeltweg.

Those five wins formed part of eight podium finishes across the 16 races assigned to ST11. Its listed season ended at the September Nürburgring meeting, where Biela retired from the opening race and finished fifth in the second.

1996 SOUTH AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Moss drove ST11 as number 8 for Audi Sport’s Rothmans-backed South African program, alongside Chris Aberdein in number 9. Moss won the opening race at Kyalami and the first race at Aldo Scribante, then swept both races at the May Kyalami meeting. His fifth victory came at East London.

Moss finished with 93 championship points, three ahead of Aberdein. At the Killarney finale, Aberdein won both races, but Moss’s two second-place finishes preserved his championship lead. ST11’s documented campaign comprised five victories and seven second-place finishes across 20 races.

THE ROTHMANS AUDI PROGRAM

Period coverage identifies André van der Watt as Audi Sport’s team manager. Before the Killarney finale, the team tested both A4s in Cape Town, evaluating setup changes and tire compounds to manage their weight disadvantage.

The South African title became one of seven national touring car championships won by the A4 quattro in 1996. Audi later recalled that achievement in its official coverage of the brand’s return to Kyalami for international GT racing in 2019.

LATER HISTORY

The cited ST11 page supplies no subsequent competition entries, ownership chronology or present location. Its current-status field is blank.

Moss also competed in the separate late-1996 Rainbow Cup International Super Touring Series, but those appearances are not assigned to ST11 on its chassis page. They are therefore excluded from this entry’s chassis-specific results.
