The US-spec Audi allroad quattro 2.7T entered the North American market for the 2001 model year following its debut at the 2000 New York Auto Show. Positioned as a performance-oriented crossover wagon, it combined the structure and refinement of the C5-generation A6 Avant with increased ride height, protective cladding, and adaptive air suspension.
Power came from Audi’s 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6, paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed Tiptronic automatic. Quattro permanent all-wheel drive with a Torsen center differential provided full-time torque distribution, supported by Electronic Differential Lock and Electronic Stability Program.
A defining characteristic of the model was its four-position adaptive air suspension system, allowing the vehicle to vary ride height depending on speed and selected mode. At its lowest setting, the vehicle lowered for improved high-speed stability; at its highest, it provided increased ground clearance suitable for snow, gravel, and light off-road conditions.
Standard equipment was comprehensive for the segment, including dual-zone automatic climate control, Cricket leather upholstery, walnut interior trim, a Symphony audio system with subwoofer, extensive cargo management provisions, and SIDEGUARD curtain airbags. Optional packages expanded comfort and technology offerings through heated rear seating, navigation, xenon lighting, Bose audio, solar sunroof, and parking assistance.
Produced through the 2005 model year in the United States, the allroad 2.7T established Audi’s early presence in the premium crossover wagon segment and laid the groundwork for later allroad variants.
