I think it’s time to make a shift. When I launched ooooIYKYK, I wanted to create a publication that reflected the four rings at its best. One that covered the entire world of Audi—not just new cars, but motorsport, history, design, engineering, collector cars, rumors and of course the people and the culture in and around the four rings. I wanted to entertain and even educate while keeping it within the context of the four rings.
At the time, that was to help establish to my audience and maybe even myself that there was still an unmistakable energy around the marque at a time when the Audi brand was facing a lot of challenges. Not all those challenges have been dismissed, but there’s no question Audi is picking up momentum and so I’m seeing a need to match that pace.
The news cycle has become more active, the ooooIYKYK Audi Archives have expanded into one of the site’s defining features, while coverage of the brand is requiring more and more commitment as it all picks up speed.
As ooooIYKYK has evolved, I’ve realized something.
The website is where the reporting happens. The email should be the most thorough way to stay connected to it.
That’s why I’m making a few changes to how Substack works.
THE DAILY AUDI BRIEF
Rather than relying on a traditional weekly newsletter, paid subscribers will begin receiving the ooooIYKYK Brief.
The Brief is designed to be a concise roundup of what’s new across ooooIYKYK. Expect links to the latest stories, Audi Archives additions, curated video from key Audi content creators, motorsport coverage, product news and the occasional market find, all accompanied by clear summaries so you can stay informed in just a few minutes.
The goal with the brief is to make sure those who seek to be the most informed don’t miss out.
Although it’s called the Brief, it won’t arrive because the calendar says it should. It’ll arrive because there’s something worth sharing.
Some weeks that may mean seven days of daily Brief, particularly around Formula One weekends, major product launches or busy periods of Audi news. Other times there may be a quieter stretch when nothing meaningful has happened. As an independent publisher, I’d rather send a Brief because it has value than because I feel obligated to meet an arbitrary schedule.
And yes, it also may go quiet because of personal travel.
AUDI COMMENTARY ALSO SHIFTS
The more editorial-like columns aren’t going away.
Instead, they’ll become their own standalone posts that underpin the free weekly-ish ooooIYKYK Newsletter about Audi that you have already come to know.
This gives me the freedom to publish when I have something worthwhile to say rather than trying to fit every opinion into a rigidly weekly newsletter.
Those posts will continue to be available to everyone and will also include a roundup of recent stories published since the previous newsletter, making them a great way for all subscribers (free or not) to stay connected with everything happening across the site.
SPECIAL THANK YOU TO EARLY SUPPORTERS
If you’re already a paid subscriber, you’ll automatically become a Legacy Member.
Your subscription price shouldn’t be changing as I’m told legacies may remain at the original pricing within the Substack system. As a thank you for supporting ooooIYKYK early, you’ll get the Brief and the Newsletter at your existing rate for as long as you remain subscribed.
For new subscribers, paid memberships will move to $9.99 per month or $99 per year. Those memberships include the ooooIYKYK Briefing along with everything else available to paid subscribers.
The Founding Membership remains available for readers who simply wish to provide additional support for the publication’s continued growth.
LOOKING AHEAD
ooooIYKYK has always focused on quality rather than volume.
Sometimes that means several stories in a day. Sometimes it means spending days researching a single Archive entry. Sometimes it means reporting from an event where the focus is on gathering information first and publishing once I return. And yes, sometimes it means taking time away to recharge before coming back with fresh perspective.
This publication is intentionally built around thoughtful, independent reporting orchestrated by a single publisher rather than a predetermined quota-driven content calendar.
That won’t change.
What will change is that staying connected to everything happening across ooooIYKYK will become easier than ever.
Thank you, as always, for reading and for supporting independent automotive journalism.
I can’t wait to show you what’s next.
