Audi Returns to Sweden’s Electric Car Championship With Long-Range A6 e-tron

Audi Sweden is once again taking on one of Scandinavia’s most demanding electric vehicle endurance challenges. On June 30, the brand will line up for the second running of the Swedish Electric Car Championship, sending an Audi A6 Sportback e-tron performance on the 1,600-kilometer journey from Ystad to Haparanda.

The event is less about outright speed than demonstrating real-world efficiency. Competitors attempt to complete the cross-country route in the shortest possible time while remaining fully compliant with public road traffic laws. Success depends on balancing driving pace, charging strategy and route planning rather than setting maximum speeds.

Audi Sweden’s entry pairs Pontus Lamberg with co-driver Adam Nanne. Lamberg competed in the inaugural event in 2025, where the team finished fifth overall after more than 18 hours on the road, crossing the finish line just seven minutes behind the winning entry.

This year, Audi returns with a more capable tool for the job. The A6 Sportback e-tron performance offers a WLTP driving range of approximately 770 kilometers, making it one of the longest-range battery-electric vehicles currently available from the brand. Power comes from a 270 kW (367 hp) electric motor paired with a 100 kWh battery pack with 94.9 kWh of usable capacity. When charging is required, the car supports DC fast charging at up to 270 kW.

Rather than manually planning every stop, the Audi team will once again rely on the vehicle’s integrated route planner to determine where and when charging should occur. The approach mirrors how many owners would use the car on a long-distance journey and reinforces the team’s goal of showcasing everyday usability rather than optimizing around pre-planned charging locations.

Lamberg says last year’s experience convinced the team to return, with the primary objective remaining to demonstrate how straightforward long-distance electric travel has become. A podium finish would be welcome, he noted, but the team’s emphasis remains on proving the practicality of modern EVs over extended distances. He also joked that the freshly applied competition decals might make the car just a little quicker.

The challenge begins at Michelsen’s Bil, an Audi dealership in Ystad, before heading north across virtually the entire length of Sweden to Haparanda near the Finnish border. For Audi, the event serves as another real-world demonstration of the capabilities of its Premium Platform Electric-based A6 e-tron, highlighting the combination of long range, rapid charging and intelligent route planning on one of Europe’s longest domestic road trips.
