Chinese AUDI Lineup Expanded with E7X Electric SUV

Audi has introduced the AUDI E7X, the second production model under its China-exclusive AUDI brand developed in partnership with SAIC. Revealed at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, the E7X is a large all-electric SUV positioned to expand the brand’s presence in China’s premium EV segment.

The model follows the AUDI E5 Sportback and continues a strategy centered on market-specific products built around China’s digital ecosystem and consumer preferences. Production will take place at the Anting facility in Shanghai, with a market launch scheduled for the first half of 2026.

POSITIONING & PLATFORM

The E7X rides on the Advanced Digitized Platform (ADP), a jointly developed architecture with zonal electronics designed to support over-the-air updates and integrated connected services. The SUV measures 5,049 mm in length with a 3,060 mm wheelbase, placing it firmly in the large SUV category.

Audi frames the E7X as a blend of traditional brand attributes—driving dynamics and design—with China-focused digital functionality and in-cabin features.

POWERTRAIN & PERFORMANCE

Two fully electric variants will be offered. A rear-wheel-drive version produces 300 kW and 500 Nm, while a higher-output quattro model delivers 500 kW and 800 Nm, enabling a 0–100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds.

The E7X operates on a 900-volt architecture, supporting fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 13 minutes under ideal conditions. Battery options include 100 kWh and 109 kWh packs, with the larger unit targeting more than 750 km of range under CLTC testing.

Standard chassis features include all-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension, with an off-road mode integrated into Audi drive select.

DESIGN & LIGHTING

The exterior adopts a revised interpretation of Audi design language for the AUDI sub-brand. A prominent feature is the “Light Frame,” integrating more than 1,000 individual lighting elements into the front and rear signatures. Functional components such as sensors and lighting units are grouped within a continuous black surround.

Digital Matrix LED headlights are standard, with projection-based safety features including lane guidance and distance indication in low-visibility conditions.

INTERIOR & DIGITAL FEATURES

The E7X interior focuses heavily on rear-seat experience. Two seating configurations are offered: a five-seat layout and a four-seat executive version. The latter includes reclining rear seats with up to 120 degrees of adjustment, integrated massage functions, and extended footrests.

A 21.4-inch rear entertainment display deploys from the headliner, supported by multi-screen interaction with a 27-inch panoramic front display. Audio is handled by a Bose Performance Series system with up to 26 speakers.

Audi’s in-car software is built around AUDI OS, paired with an AI-based assistant developed with ByteDance. The system manages vehicle functions, navigation, and media while supporting conversational interaction.

Additional features include configurable “scene modes” that adjust lighting, seating, and displays simultaneously.

DRIVER ASSISTANCE

The E7X introduces a lidar-based AUDI 360 Driving Assist system, developed with Momenta and tailored for Chinese traffic environments. It supports highway and urban assisted driving, along with a range of automated parking functions including memory parking and remote operation.

CHINA IN CONTEXT

The E7X represents a continuation of Audi’s localized strategy in China, where the AUDI sub-brand operates alongside the global Audi lineup. The approach emphasizes digital integration and market-specific development rather than global platform sharing.

Following the E5 Sportback and E7X, a third AUDI model—an all-electric sedan—is expected in 2027, further expanding the China-only range.
