On the same day we’re seeing initial reports of Audi RS 5 (B10) deliveries at dealerships in Europe posted to Instagram, we’ve also found reference to a fascinating-looking special build RS 5 sedan. Highlighted in two posts by user @pomphuu, the car appears to have a number of cosmetic design elements we haven’t yet seen in any of the other RS 5 materials.
There are two posts by @pomphuu, the first one showing a still photo of one sedan sitting outside on its air freight pallet. The second post is a video where the camera person walks up and looks closer at details like the nose of the car, carbon elements and the wheels with red ring center caps and red brake calipers. A second still image of two cars seen from the front and rear parked next to each other also seems to reveal red rings at the rear of the car.
We don’t yet know the location. While @pomphuu appears to be U.S.-based, he shares that his buddy got shots of the car and there isn’t enough detail in the shots to identify their location.
SO WHAT IS IT?
What is it exactly? We’re not exactly sure but we’ve got a likely guess.
In form, it’s an RS 5 (B10) sedan painted a matte grey lighter than Daytona Grey Pearl Effect. The German market Audi RS 5 Sedan configurator tool also includes a color called Plateau Grey Metallic that could be this simply with a matte finish. Matte paint isn’t all that out of the norm for Audi exclusive, but the red rings at the front, the rear and on the wheels aren’t anything we’ve seen before in production.
Its likely purpose then would explain the rings. Audi Revolut F1 has begun its social media push ahead of the upcoming Miami Grand Prix in America. This car, quite obviously, is wearing Audi Revolut F1 colors – satin titanium look with black wheels and red accents. If you feel like you’ve seen that before beyond the R26 F1 car then you’re right. It was the SQ8 Audi China showed off during Chinese Grand Prix weekend.
Given @Pomphuu is in the USA and likely his buddy is too, given the car’s appearance and that it’s a sedan that is the expected body style for America, and given the timing of the Miami Grand Prix, it seems like a logical guess that these two RS 5 Sedans are Miami bound in order to support the brand presence on the ground there.
That seems like a pretty solid guess. Have a different theory? Let us know.
Thanks to @Pomphuu for sharing the images and video. Full transparency – the header image you see in this story was created using AI tools in order to better visualize what we’re seeing. While the cars in the Instagram posts are believed to be real, the image seen above this story is entirely a rendering.
