Finds of the Week: Auction Site Avants of the Noughties

Sometimes the Finds of the Week theme picks itself. Such was the case this week when a mix of wagons hit the various auction sites most coincidentally. And while, sure, there may be other Audi Avants on the platforms I’m not including, what I chose to focus on here was more to underline the sheer obscurity, rarity or awesomeness that just happens to be up for sale at the moment.

Each of these Avants is from the 2000s, thus the seemingly click-baity title. No, it’s not “naughty”, it’s “noughties”, which is British slang for the years of 2000-2009.

With that, let’s get started. I’ll list them from most to least expensive, plus some basic details.

What: 2002 Audi RS 4 Avant
VIN: WUAZZZ8DZ1N904231
Mileage: 11,000 km, 7,000 miles
Location: Portland, OR
Link: Bring a Trailer

Why: This is the year that the B5 RS 4 Avant is importable, though you’ll notice this car is too young. Fortunately for some, the B5 RS 4 has been on the NHTSA list of importable vehicles for years now thanks to its structural similarities to the B5 S4 Avant. That’s how cars like this one end up in the USA. This one in particular is a great specimen, appearing largely unmodified and having logged very few miles. It’s not a rare color (Avus Silver Metallic) nor does it have the optional factory Recaro wingback seats, but it’s still an amazing specimen by my measure.

What: 2008 Audi RS 6 AVant
VIN: WUAZZZ4F98N902812
Mileage: 50,000 km, 31,000 miles
Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada
Link: Bring a Trailer

Why: To some, this may be the coolest RS 6 Avant ever. No, the C6 A6 isn’t dynamically as capable as a modern RS 6, nor is it as stylistically groundbreaking as the C5 or C3 of the lineage. However, it’s the only one to have ever gotten a twin turbocharged V10, and arguably it’s also the only RS 6 to have ever gotten box flares. By these measures, it’s the perfect storm.

However, and this is a serious however, it’s not old enough to import into the USA and it’s not on NHTSA’s list of importable vehicles (though someone could probably do that with the sedan under the same logic that saw the B5 RS 4 land on that list). Regardless, it’s not doable right now, so that leaves the car open for mainly Canadians. Not only is it in Canada, but Canada allows importation of cars only 15 years old, which is what allowed it to be imported there.

What: 2006 Audi A6 Avant V10 “S6 Tribute”
VIN: Not Disclosed
Mileage: 111,763 miles
Location: Concord, NC
Link: Ebay

Why: Though North America got the C6 S6 Sedan with normally-aspirated V10, we never received the Avant version. That didn’t stop whomever built this car. It appears to be based on a Sepang Blue A6 Avant of the same era, and fitted with mainly OEM parts and a few aftermarket upgrades.

What: 2001 Audi RS 4 Avant
VIN: Not Disclosed
Mileage: 33,700 miles (TMU)
Location: Miami, FL
Link: Ebay

Why: Technically not up for auction, the car is listed on Ebay though and so it’s being included. Though old enough for import the “easy way” as 25 years or older, this car actually appears to have come into the USA before it reached that status. Though not as low mileage and fitted with a few modifications as compared to the other B5 RS 4 in this list, this car does have optional Recaro wingback seats.
