2026 Hungarian Grand Prix - Friday

Ferrari set the pace through both Friday practice sessions at the Hungaroring, emerging as the early favorite for the Hungarian Grand Prix after Charles Leclerc topped FP1 before Lewis Hamilton led a Ferrari one-two in FP2. Leclerc’s opening-session advantage was interrupted by a late mechanical issue that left him stranded at pit entry, but Ferrari quickly rebounded in the afternoon to underline the strength of its upgraded package. McLaren’s Lando Norris remained firmly in the mix, while Max Verstappen and Red Bull continued to search for answers despite bringing further updates to Budapest.

For Audi Revolut F1 Team, Friday delivered an encouraging start on a circuit that appears well suited to the R26. Gabriel Bortoleto impressed with sixth place in the opening session while Nico Hรผlkenberg finished eighth, giving the team both cars comfortably inside the top ten as it worked through a comprehensive programme of tire evaluation, setup optimization and long-run data collection. As grip improved on the dusty track surface throughout the day, Audi shifted its attention toward refining the car’s balance and drivability, completing its planned workload without major setbacks.

While outright lap times became less representative during FP2 as teams pursued differing fuel loads and race simulations, Audi leaves Friday with reason for optimism. The Hinwil-based squad has shown increasingly consistent pace over recent rounds, and Hungary’s flowing, medium-speed layout appears to play to the strengths of its package. With the midfield expected to be separated by only tenths of a second, overnight analysis and fine-tuning could prove decisive as Audi looks to convert a promising Friday into another strong qualifying performance on Saturday.

2026 Hungarian Grand Prix – Friday

R:11 TEAM RACE PREVIEW

Audi Revolut F1 Team completed a productive opening day at the Hungaroring as Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto worked through an extensive programme across Fridayโ€™s two practice sessions. Running on a dusty and evolving track surface, the team focused on tyre evaluation, setup optimisation and gathering data ahead of qualifying.

Strong performances in FP1, with Bortoleto sixth and Hulkenberg eighth, reflected a positive start on a circuit that appears to suit the characteristics of the car. As track conditions evolved throughout the day, the focus shifted towards refining balance and drivability while completing the planned run programme. With the midfield battle expected to remain exceptionally close, the team will analyse Fridayโ€™s data overnight in pursuit of further gains ahead of qualifying.

TEAM QUOTES

2026 Hungarian Grand Prix – Thursday

Nico Hulkenberg, Car #27
FP1: 8th / 1:20.623 (29 laps)
FP2: 9th / 1:20.125 (30 laps)

“It was a fairly straightforward Friday. We worked our way through the different tyre compounds, learned a bit more about the balance and made some progress with the setup between the two sessions. Overall, I’d say it was a decent day. As expected, the midfield is incredibly close again, so every little detail is going to make a difference tomorrow. There’s still plenty to play for, and we’ll look to put everything together in qualifying.”

FP2: 11thย / 1:20.474ย (27ย laps)

โ€œIt was a positive day overall. We collected a lot of useful data, even if FP2 was a bit more difficult, especially on the soft tyre. The wind made the conditions quite challenging, so we have a few things to work on overnight. The field is very tight as always, but if we can put everything together, I think we can have a good day tomorrow.โ€
