Audi F1 Update, Week 19: Miami to Canada Gap

With a few weeks off between the Miami Grand Prix and the Grand Prix du Canada (May 22-24), we find F1 news simply doesn’t stop and so we’ll keep that going with regular weekly summaries.

This week, we’ve got photos coming in from various sources – motorsport photographer Colin McCarty, Audi Wilmington’s Tommy Mihok who attended the race including the Audi Turn 1 Club and Motorsport Diaries blogger James Edmonds who happened to catch the Audi R26 display car on a surprise showing at Audi Stuart. Given the wealth of inbound resources, wanted to look back at Miami from a few different perspectives and take you there should you not have been able to make it yourself.

AUDI RS 5 PIRELLI HOT LAP PROGRAM CAR BY COLIN MCCARTY & AUDI AG

Details of the special Audi exclusive RS 5 Sedan built for the Pirelli Hot Lap Program that is part of the F1 race weekend were dropped last week HERE. We’ve got a more photography of the car on site thanks to sources at Audi and also motorsport photographer / friend-of-the-site Colin McCarty who was able to get up close and personal with the car while in Miami for the race.

This program marked the first public operational role for Audi’s new plug-in hybrid performance sedan within the F1 paddock environment. At the Miami Grand Prix, Audi deployed two specially prepared RS 5 models finished in a unique launch specification that appeared to mirror the cars previously spotted during U.S. air freight transit. The cars featured a dark exterior finish with red detailing not yet available through standard Audi exclusive ordering channels, making them particularly notable among early RS 5 builds. Former Audi Sport drivers Dindo Capello and Markus Winkelhock handled driving duties, taking guests and VIPs around the Miami International Autodrome as part of the official Hot Lap support program.

ATTENDEE’S EYE VIEW GALLERY BY TOMMY MIHOK OF AUDI WILMINGTON

Another friend of the site, Audi Wilmington GM Tommy Mihok happened to attend the event including passes to the exclusive Audi Turn 1 Club. Tommy’s not a journalist, but he is an incredibly knowledgable motorsport aficionado that of course centers around Audi. He wasn’t there to shoot the event for us, but he was kind enough to share photos real time as the weekend went down that we, in turn, were able to share on our social media channels.

AFTER THE PARTY IN AUDI STUART’S LOBBY BY JAMES EDMONDS ON LOCATION AT AUDI STUART

In a surprise move following the race, a blogger, Champion Audi alumni and Florida native James Edmonds checked in with news he’d been able to attend a public showing of the Audi R26 display car (note the original side pod design) that was temporarily on display at Audi Stuart in Stuart, Florida. Likely the same car that was used in the Miami waterfront photo shoot of the Pirelli Hot Laps program RS 5, the car stopped for a quick dealer visit before heading on to wherever its next placement may be… perhaps aligned with the Canadian Grand Prix.

AUDI REVOLUT F1 TEAM EDITOR’S SELECTION GALLERY BY AUDI REVOLUT F1

Following every race, Audi Revolut F1 shares photography that have a bit more of an artistic flair. That mix typically comes days after the Grand Prix once they’ve had a chance to sort, edit and choose. This is that mix.
