Audi Nuvolari Makes U.S. Debut at Monterey Car Week

The Audi Nuvolari is making its first appearance in the United States this week, with Audi bringing its new limited-production supercar to Monterey Car Week for appearances at The Quail and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

First revealed earlier this year in conjunction with the Monaco Grand Prix, the Nuvolari represents a new performance flagship for Audi and is the most powerful production vehicle in the brand’s history. Production will be limited to 499 examples worldwide.

The Nuvolari combines Audi’s first high-performance plug-in hybrid supercar powertrain with a new Audi Space Frame and full carbon-fiber body. Total system output is 1,001 PS, or 987 hp, with a claimed top speed exceeding 217 mph.

Other technologies include active aerodynamics, quattro predictive ride and an available exposed carbon-fiber package.

Monterey marks the first opportunity for prospective U.S. customers and enthusiasts to see the Nuvolari in person. Audi is also using the week to host private events and appointments for prospective buyers and collectors.

“Once a year, the Monterey Peninsula becomes the pinnacle backdrop for premium and exclusive mobility, which makes it the ideal place to introduce our halo performance model to North America and share our excitement with customers, collectors, and enthusiasts,” said Audi of America President Vito Paladino.

The Nuvolari makes its first public U.S. appearance Friday, August 14 at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. Audi will have product specialists, designers and technical experts on hand to discuss the car, including its hybrid powertrain, construction and design.

The car then moves to Pebble Beach on Sunday, August 16, where it will be displayed on the Concept Lawn during the 75th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Pebble Beach appearance will provide broader public access to the car during Monterey Car Week.

Beyond establishing a new performance benchmark for Audi, the Nuvolari previews technology and design expected to influence future models.

Development took place alongside Audi’s entry into Formula One, with the company citing technology transfer in areas including hybrid performance, energy management, active aerodynamics, recuperation, launch control, lightweight construction and braking systems.

The Nuvolari also represents an early production expression of Audi’s evolving design direction under Chief Creative Officer Massimo Frascella and his team.

The Monterey appearance follows several European outings for the Nuvolari since its introduction. Its arrival in California puts the car directly in front of the North American collector market for the first time, and alongside the limited-production supercars and hypercars that increasingly play a major role during Monterey Car Week.

With just 499 examples planned globally, Audi is positioning the Nuvolari as both a technological flagship and collector model as it begins a new chapter combining electrified road-car performance with its Formula One program.
