Finds of the Week: F1 Team Color Time

This week the Audi Revolut F1 Team plans to reveal its full adidas apparel lineup. Add to that other partnerships such as luggage and bags from Piquadro or brick set kits from LEGO and you have the makings of a burgeoning collection of goods stemming from this new team.

One thing we haven’t seen yet is a partner timepiece such as Breitling’s recent pairing with Aston Martin. Audi Chief Creative Officer Massimo Frascella is an admitted watch fan (talking about it on the Hodinkee Podcast found in this site’s Audi-interest podcast curation section) or sharing images of his own timepiece collection via his Instagram account. We also know Audi Sport has a history with timekeeping be it Heuer in the rally era, plus TAG Heuer (no directly associated timepiece produced) and Tudor during the Le Mans R15 to R18 era.

It’s probably just a matter of time before Audi Revolut F1 announces something official in the watch space, but until then we’re left dreaming. We also noticed a new focus by watchmakers on hues extremely close to those chosen as part of the Audi Revolut F1 colorway – black/carbon, titanium and an orange-ish red now known as Audi Red. For those watching really closely, Chalk is another recurring player in the Audi Sport palette.

Until we get an actual Audi F1 timepiece, it seemed like assembling a list of what we’ve found was in order. You’ll find it below, and notably dominated by some of the latest TAG Heuer offerings. TAG Heuer has an official partnership with Formula 1, with drivers like Max Verstappen operating as official ambassadors. Even if they don’t end up as an official partner of Audi as they were during the rally and Le Mans eras, they certainly have F1 as a strong underlying theme and so their watches frequently have familiar color ways for fans of a host of F1 teams. Now, it would seem, Audi Revolut F1 fans can count themselves part of that group.

Also worth noting, we’re working off of images we’ve found online. Some of these watches are listed as “orange”. Even if they do appear relatively close to Audi Red and other Audi F1 colors online, that doesn’t guarantee that they are. Further, none of these are associated with the team in any way that we’re aware of, meaning one shouldn’t count on any formal color coordination having been part of the design process.

With that in mind. Let’s dig in.
