Finds of the Week: New 1:18 Scale Audi Models

Being a car enthusiast and having a guilty pleasure for scale models tend to go hand in hand. The idea is pretty simple. If you love cars, then loving small models of cars and building a collection just sort of makes sense… at least until you wake up in a stupor wondering why you have more models laying about than your grandma has porcelain figurines. Even if you do though, I’m not here to judge.

I’m a proponent of scale cars. They’re all over my office (love you grandma), a mix of race cars I love and some cars I’ve actually owned. Further, I tend to center on scales – larger 1:18 around the office, HO scale 1:87s in a printing press drawer hung on the bricks, or more durable 1:64 die-casts in candy jars… all thematically aligned because I have a problem.

One way to contend with that problem is to run stories about them, which gets us around to this week’s mix of Finds of the Week. It’s been a hot minute since I catalogued these things for Audi Club’s quattro Magazine, so I’ve got a fair amount in a bit of a holding pattern. In as much, I’m going focus solely on 1:18 scale so this list doesn’t go on forever. Expect other scales in some future week.

One last thing. Before we dig into this, I’ll address the usual hate mail I’d get when we ran these in quattro. Some of these are seemingly only available in Europe. The pre-order window for others may have come and gone. I can’t control these factors, however I can give you advice. First, if you’re resourceful and motivated then seek and you shall find. Second, when all else fails, try Ebay and set up search notifications. Finally, I’m going to include a couple of my favorite sources for these cars in here. Hopefully that helps.
