ABT Celebrates 130 Years with 800-hp RS 6-LE 800

Few names in the Audi tuning world carry the same weight as ABT Sportsline. From early beginnings as a blacksmith shop in Kempten in 1896 to becoming one of the most influential performance houses for the Audi and Volkswagen Group ecosystem, the company’s story spans four generations of the Abt family.

Now, 130 years after Johann Baptist Abt first established the workshop, the company is marking the milestone with a trilogy of anniversary models. Leading the celebration is the new RS6-LE 800, a limited-run evolution of the already rare Audi RS6 Avant (C8)-based Legacy Edition.

Only 30 examples of the anniversary version will be produced worldwide.

LEGACY OF AUDI PERFORMANCE

ABT’s connection to the four rings dates back more than a century. In 1920, the second generation of the Abt family established a partnership with Horch and Audi, a relationship that would shape the company’s future.

Motorsport also played a defining role. Johann Abt II competed in more than 300 races and formally established the tuning division under the name Auto-Abt in 1967. The company quickly became known for its performance upgrades, including one of the earliest tuning packages for the Volkswagen Golf Mk1 in 1974 and pioneering electronic performance upgrades in 1980 — the foundations of modern ECU tuning.

Today, ABT remains the most prominent independent tuner specializing in Audi-based performance machines, and the RS6 Legacy Edition program was created as a tribute to the long history of Audi’s twin-turbo V8 super wagon.

THE RS 6-LE 800

The RS6-LE 800 builds on the RS6 Legacy Edition unveiled in 2023, which itself was limited to 200 units worldwide and celebrated more than two decades of RS6 history.

The anniversary model pushes the formula even further. Equipped with the ABT POWER R upgrade package, the car now produces 800 horsepower and 980 Nm of torque, a significant leap from the factory Audi RS6 Avant (C8) output.

The gains come from a suite of mechanical upgrades including:

  • ABT turbocharger
  • ABT intercooler
  • ABT oil cooler

The result is one of the most powerful RS6 variants ever produced by the Kempten-based tuner.

Chassis upgrades match the power increase. ABT coilover springs and sports stabilizers sharpen handling, while a stainless-steel exhaust system with four 102 mm tailpipes amplifies the soundtrack of the twin-turbo V8.

NEODYM THE ANNIVERSARY SIGNATURE

What sets the RS6-LE 800 apart visually is a distinctive Neodym-colored theme carried throughout the vehicle.

The highlight is a set of 22-inch ABT HIGH PERFORMANCE IR22 forged wheels finished in satin matte gold, contrasting against the car’s extensive gloss visible carbon aerodynamic components. The gold tone appears repeatedly across the exterior, from the RS6-LE 800 badging to the ABT logos and decorative inlays integrated into the front lip and rear apron.

The carbon aero package itself is extensive and includes:

  • ABT front blades and front apron inserts
  • carbon bonnet insert and grille topper
  • wheel arch vents with RS6-LE 800 emblem
  • carbon mirror cap toppers and side skirts
  • rear apron inserts and decorative strut
  • ABT rear wing with aeroblades

Inside, the theme continues with an Alcantara ABT steering wheel, gloss carbon shift paddles and optional carbon interior trim featuring subtle Neodym particle accents. RS6-LE branding appears throughout the cabin including seat embroidery, door sill plates and floor mats.

TIME CAPSULE FOR THE ANNIVERSARY

Each of the 30 cars will include a unique detail created specifically for the anniversary: a commemorative “130 Years of ABT” coin housed within the vehicle as a time capsule marking the company’s milestone.

The RS6-LE 800 package is priced at €108,000 including VAT, with installation costs of €13,640 plus TÜV inspection. That pricing reflects the upgrade package alone, as the car itself begins with the base RS6 Avant.

THE FIRST OF THREE

The RS6-LE 800 represents only the opening chapter of ABT’s anniversary celebrations. Two additional limited models are scheduled to debut later in 2026 as part of the company’s “anniversary trilogy.”

According to Hans‑Jürgen Abt, the special models are intended as a tribute to the enthusiasts who helped shape the brand over the past century.

“The RS6-LE 800 is just the beginning,” he said when announcing the project.

For Audi fans, that statement alone will be enough to keep an eye on Kempten as the rest of ABT’s 130-year celebration unfolds.
