Mattel Brick Shop + Hot Wheels Bring Audi Icons to the Build Table

For Audi fans, the appeal of scale models runs deep — from die-cast Hot Wheels in a childhood toy box to the resin 1:18s proudly displayed in glass cases. Now, there’s a new way to connect with Audi’s most storied cars: by building them piece by piece.

Mattel has announced a new collaboration with quattro GmbH and Auto Union GmbH, both subsidiaries of AUDI AG, that brings two icons from Ingolstadt’s history to the Mattel Brick Shop™ and Hot Wheels® lineup. Collectors can now pre-order building sets of the Audi Avant RS2 (1:32 scale) and Audi R8 LMS (1:16 scale) at major retailers including Amazon, Target, Walmart, and Mattel Creations.

“Hot Wheels and Audi first partnered back in 1993 with the brand’s first official casting,” explained Ted Wu, Global Head of Vehicles and Building Sets at Mattel. “We’re proud to expand that relationship with the Brick Shop line, allowing enthusiasts to interact with these storied Audi models in an entirely new way — by building them.”

AUDI RS2 AVANT CULT CLASSIC WAGON

Born from a collaboration between Audi and Porsche in the mid-1990s, the Avant RS2 was the brand’s first RS model and remains one of the most coveted performance wagons ever built. Powered by a turbocharged 5-cylinder and paired with a six-speed manual, the RS2 quickly developed a cult following despite being produced for just two years.

Mattel’s 1:32 scale Brick Shop RS2 Avant pays homage to this legend with thoughtful details: a removable greenhouse roof, opening doors, and even opening front and rear windshields — a first at this scale for Mattel. Toyo Proxes R888R tires, OEM-style wheels, and custom decal options make it possible to recreate period-correct looks or personalize it to taste. The set retails for $19.99 and is designed for collectors ages 17 and up.

AUDI R8 LMS GT3 DOMINANCE TO DESKTOP DISPLAY

If the RS2 defined Audi Sport’s beginnings, the R8 LMS cemented its racing legacy. Since debuting in 2009, the customer-racing GT3 car has taken countless victories around the world, including seven overall wins at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The second-generation R8 LMS, built from 2015 to 2024, is represented here in a detailed 1:16 scale Brick Shop build.

The model captures the aggressive stance and endurance pedigree of the R8 LMS, featuring a removable roof, opening doors, an engine hatch, and a functioning steering system. Collectors can swap out splitters, spoilers, and decals, or switch to an extra set of metal wheel covers for a race-ready look. Priced at $49.99, it’s positioned as the more advanced build in the series.

GREAT GEAR FOR AFICIONADOS

The Audi x Mattel Brick Shop collaboration bridges nostalgia, motorsport heritage, and hands-on creativity. This also isn’t the first time Audi and Mattel have worked together on brick kits. These two kits follow last year’s MEGA Hot Wheels Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO that’s already available in stores and online.

Both models include Hot Wheels’ signature collector metal plate, reinforcing their place in the brand’s premium enthusiast lineup.

For fans eager to see the sets in person, Mattel will showcase them on October 4th at the Hot Wheels Legends Tour in El Segundo, California.

Audi enthusiasts have long sought new ways to celebrate the brand’s performance icons — from the RS2 Avant’s unlikely Porsche co-development to the R8 LMS’s domination of global GT3 grids. These builds may not have turbocharged five-cylinders or screaming V10s under their hoods, but they offer something different: a chance to slow down, click bricks together, and create Audi history in miniature.
