Earlier this week I ran the bizarre story of a roof box-equipped Audi Q5 dodging police by jumping the University Bridge in Seattle. At that time, the only footage of the car was a security camera shot from behind, hardly showing much detail of what actually happened. Now, thanks to a recent release of footage by the Seattle Police Department, we can see more of what transpired.
‘
The footage begins with police car cam footage of the first encounter with the white Q5, when the evasion begins from the viewpoint of the police cruiser complete with radio monologue by the officer piloting the police car.
After we watch the Q5 make the jump from that vantage point, there is new security camera footage from the front and offset. In that footage we see the Q5 fully aloft, casting an unobstructed shadow beneath it.
Finally, there appears to be body cam footage of the car being located abandoned at a another location.
According to Seattle’s KOMO News, “At around 12:20 p.m. on Sept. 17, officers tried to stop a car with a stolen license plate near 10th Ave E and East Boston Street, according to SPD. An officer tried to follow the driver through residential streets, but lost sight of the car. Shortly after, officers saw the car stopped in traffic on Eastlake Avenue East near the University Bridge, which was lowering. As officers prepared to “make a high-risk stop,” the car swerved into oncoming traffic, broke through a safety gate, and sped onto the partially raised bridge. The car then jumped the gap, went airborne, then landed on the other side of the bridge and continued north.”
