We’ve got some updated images and intel regarding the Porsche Boxster EV and Audi’s confirmed interest in the car to underpin a replacement to the Audi TT. In as much, it seemed like the right time for an update.
First off are the photos. Our friend @wilcoblok on Instagram has nabbed a second round of shots of the Boxster EV mule with IN registration tags. Of course, IN designates registration in Ingolstadt. While this is clearly a Porsche Boxster EV test mule, Porsche doesn’t register mules in Ingolstadt. Audi, on the other hand, registers under plates beginning with IN and also HN (HN for Heilbronn, i.e. Neckarsulm).
So why would a Porsche test mule have IN plates? Well, rumors from trusted members of the press have been saying for awhile now that Audi was considering the architecture to underpin an upcoming replacement to the TT. Whether it is in fact a TT or something else remains to be seen, but the fact that they’re testing it is pretty convincing proof that Ingolstadt is readying an EV sportscar of some sort.

Considering this, this week’s Porsche Boxster and Cayman EV intel out of Autocar Magazine seems fittingly timed and worth digging into. According to the story, Porsche is preparing to launch the Boxster EV (convertible) first in early 2026, with the Cayman EV (coupe) arriving six months after that.
In other news, Car & Driver reported this week that Porsche confirmed the end of production for the current internal combustion 718 range will occur in October. The date was confirmed by Porsche production manager Albrecht Reimold in a German language interview for Automobilwoche.
