In a collaboration between 43 Institute and the Los-Angeles-based Petersen Automotive Museum, a staggering collection of cars, personal effects and memorabilia have taken over the museum’s second-floor Meyer Gallery in order to celebrate the life and career of the legendary Ken Block. While geared towards enthusiasts of all stripes, Audi aficionados should take note that the collection includes two rarely seen four ringers.

Working closely with the Block family, the “People’s Champ” exhibition was assembled to showcase Ken Block’s undeniable impact as a racer, entrepreneur and creative visionary. Of course, this centralizes around his renowned Gymkhana video series that combined a passion for rallying with a cinematic spectacle, grabbing the attention of millions around the globe while igniting and / or fueling their automotive passion. In doing so, he and his compatriots at Hoonigan raised the bar for automotive content shared online while setting the pace for YouTubers and other online automotive creatives to follow… or at least aspire to.

Aside from Gymkhana and his racing career, Block is also known for having co-founded DC Shoes, the creation that put him on the map. By growing DC into a globally recognized action sports apparel brand, he built a most impressive financial position that allowed him to later found Hoonigan, a second brand he envisioned to celebrate speed, rebellion and passion.

Block’s profound influence has ignited the passion of millions. This exhibit is a tribute to his extraordinary legacy,” said Terry L. Karges, executive director of the Petersen Automotive Museum. “His fearless driving and innovative vision in motorsports content have forever shaped the automotive landscape.”

The exhibit is, of course, built around the cars. A remarkable collection of Block’s most iconic vehicles are on stage here. Gymkhana star cars like the Hoonicorn Ford Mustang, Hoonitruck Ford F-150, his Group B homologation Ford RS200 are highlights for many. On loan from Audi Tradition is the S1 Hoonitron in Mexico City livery. Beyond that, some of his race cars and personal cars are also showcased, notably including his 1986 Sport quattro replica known as the “Turbo Monster” and that featured regularly on Block’s personal YouTube channel.

Beyond cars, the exhibit also includes racing suits, helmets and mementos from key moments in Block’s career. Graphics around the display detail a timeline of key events in Ken Block’s life and racing career. A notable highlight here is the “Ain’t Care Wall” that displays pieces of broken and damaged vehicles meant to represent his fearless attitude and, of course, that iconic mantra.

This exhibit is a meaningful tribute to Ken’s legacy, reflecting his lasting impact and the inspiration he brought to motorsports and car culture,” said Ken’s wife, Lucy. “43 Institute is committed to fostering the opportunities that sparked his passion and creativity.”
