Audi A6 allroad C9 Test Mule Spied in Barcelona

A friend of the site reached out to me this morning with photos of a car he’d spied in Barcelona. He’d spotted the car out and about several times today, though only managed to get his camera phone out for these quick snaps.

If you look at those fender flares and first wonder if it’s an RS 6 Avant then you wouldn’t be alone. My friend and I were both wondering the same thing, though there are a few telltale signs that make us certain it’s not that.

We’ve seen test mules of the upcoming A6 allroad before, back in February when our friend @Wilcoblok nabbed a front shot. The massive fender flares sure make it look like the allroad will share suspension geometry and maybe some other components with the RS 6.

That front shot helped confirm that an allroad would have such a wide track and fender arches that we see here, but there are also other signs. For starters, the car has more run-of-the-mill exhaust tips unlike the more central oval (and Porsche 911-style) exhaust tips we’ve seen on the RS 6 and RS 5 test mules.

There’s one other tell. Most RS models now have the rear trailing vent on the front fender. This cue began on the e-tron GT family and was seen on the RS 6 Avant GT also. Spy photos of the RS 6 show that vent on those cars as well.

In as much, I feel safe saying this is an A6 allroad. Now, the big question is whether North America will also get the A6 allroad as it has in the C8 generation.
