Audi Nuvolari Makes U.S. Debut at Monterey Car Week

Audi brought the Nuvolari to the United States for the first time during Monterey Car Week. The move placed Ingolstadt’s 1,001-PS supercar in front of one of the world’s most concentrated gatherings of collectors, enthusiasts and high-end automotive customers.

The North American debut comes 17 days after Audi staged the world premiere of the Q9 in New York City, giving the brand two major U.S. introductions in less than three weeks. While the Q9 is aimed squarely at the American luxury SUV market, the limited-production Nuvolari represents the opposite end of Audi’s renewed product strategy: a technology and design leader intended to establish a new ceiling for the brand.

Audi displayed the Nuvolari at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering and on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The company also held private events for collectors and prospective customers during the week, using Monterey as both a public showcase and an opportunity to put the car directly in front of potential buyers.

“Monterey Car Week is the pinnacle premium automotive stage for Audi to showcase the brand’s first halo supercar,” said Audi of America President Vito Paladino. “With the Audi Nuvolari, we’re representing what Audi stands for — progress built on substance — while further igniting, energizing, and growing the brand in the United States.”

FROM MONACO TO MONTEREY

The California appearance also marked another milestone for the Nuvolari. Audi took the car onto public roads in the United States for the first time, driving it on the roads surrounding Carmel-by-the-Sea and the Monterey Peninsula.

It was a fitting environment for a car Audi intends to position among the world’s most exclusive automobiles. Monterey Car Week has increasingly become a venue for manufacturers to introduce limited-production supercars, coachbuilt projects and other collector-focused models directly to the clientele most likely to buy them.

The Nuvolari is limited to 499 examples worldwide and represents Audi’s first move into this level of the supercar market. Its high-performance hybrid powertrain produces 1,001 PS, while Audi quotes a top speed exceeding 350 km/h, or roughly 217 mph. Those figures make it both the most powerful and fastest production Audi to date.

Its construction also serves as a showcase for Audi engineering. The Nuvolari combines a newly developed Audi Space Frame with a carbon-fiber exterior, advanced aerodynamics and technology influenced by the company’s motorsport programs. Audi describes the car as a contemporary interpretation of “Vorsprung durch Technik” and a centerpiece of the broader renewal currently underway across the brand.

U.S. MARKET TAKES CENTER STAGE

The timing of the Nuvolari’s arrival is significant. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner positioned the Q9 and Nuvolari as two very different expressions of the same strategy, with the Q9 addressing the specific demands of American customers and the Nuvolari establishing the technological and design ambitions of the brand globally.

“Together, these two vehicles show that we are consistently translating our strategic direction into compelling products,” Döllner said.

Monterey also provided an opportunity for Audi to reconnect the four rings with the collector market at a considerably higher level than its traditional production-car portfolio. Beyond the displays at The Quail and Pebble Beach, Audi used private events throughout the week to engage collectors, media and prospective Nuvolari customers.

Audi says interest in the car is already strong despite official European presales not beginning until the fourth quarter of 2026. Production will be capped at 499 units, with the first customer deliveries planned for the first half of 2027.

For the Nuvolari, Monterey represented more than another stop on the launch calendar. After its European introductions and Monaco dynamic debut, California put Audi’s new halo car on American pavement and directly in front of the collector community it will need to reach as the brand enters a segment it has never previously occupied.
